ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

My philosophy for capturing a great head shot, portrait, or any picture of a living breathing person is not only, to meet the industry standards and make the subject look their very best, but to capture the essence – or individual personality of the subject. A long time ago I read a quote by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt which has proven its validity many times over. He stated, “It is more important to click with people than click the shutter.” So true – a client’s results are phenomenally improved when guided and fostered by a knowledgeable photographer to shine during their shoot.

I have worked with thousands of clients over the years since I began my photography business in 1990. After my return from NYC, where I studied and pursued an acting career, I applied what I had learned about the business end of the performing arts and began shooting actors’ head shots in my hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. My clients now include business people, CEO’s, politicians, city officials, families, models, entertainers, musicians, authors … and of course actors.

We live in a time where we are branded with our image. Your likeness must look professional as it reflects a lot about you. For instance, it serves as a glimpse into how you conduct your business; are you taking the necessary steps to achieve the best result; or are you cutting corners. I come from a fine art/acting background so I understand the creative process and how important it is to find the real person inside and to help project that to the camera, finding the balance between calm, good energy and confidence which is needed for today’s head shots and portraits. It’s simpler than you might think! Whether you choose studio or outdoors/location shots you will be a welcomed collaborator, well guided and privy to any techniques, skills or approaches that I have picked up along the way.
My style is relaxed and down-to-earth, creating a safe place to achieve a great picture!
